If you’ve recently tried to visit Continental Park in Kendall located at 10000 SW 82nd Ave and found parts of it closed off, you’re probably wondering what’s going on.

Continental Park, a beloved spot for family outings, sports, and just enjoying the outdoors, is undergoing a major soil remediation project, which means some areas of the park won’t be accessible for a while. Let’s break down what’s happening, why the closure is necessary, and what you can still enjoy at Continental Park during this time.
Why the Remediation Project?
Miami-Dade County has launched a two-phase soil remediation project to address environmental standards and ensure that Continental Park remains safe for everyone.
Soil remediation is a fancy way of saying they’re working to clean and treat the soil to meet health and safety regulations. Although this may sound technical, the goal is straightforward: to make sure the park is safe for families, kids, and everyone who loves spending time there.
What’s Involved in the Remediation Process?
The project is happening in two main stages:
1) West Phase– The west side of the park is currently under remediation, and work is expected to finish by summer 2024. This area may have limited access while they’re testing and treating the soil, so don’t be surprised if you see equipment and signs marking off certain spots.
2. East Phase – Once the west side is complete, work will move over to the eastern part of the park, with a planned finish by fall 2024. Until then, various sections of the park will reopen in stages as each part completes its remediation.
What's Still Open at Kendall's Continental Park?
The good news is that not everything is off-limits. If you’re a fan of tennis or like spending time at the recreation center, you’re in luck! Both the tennis courts and the recreation center are open, so you can still enjoy these facilities even while other areas are temporarily closed. Just be prepared that access to some sections may change as the project progresses, so it’s always a good idea to check in before you go.

WhyThis is Good for the Community

Continental Park’s soil remediation is all about ensuring safety, and by addressing these environmental factors now, we’re helping to preserve this space for years to come. Once the project is complete, we’ll have a cleaner, safer, and even more enjoyable park to return to!
Looking Forward
Continental Park’s remediation project might be an inconvenience for now, but it’s all in service of a long-term vision to keep Kendall’s parks safe and enjoyable for everyone. So, while we’re waiting for full access to be restored, consider checking out the tennis courts or recreation center – or exploring other beautiful parks in the Kendall area.
