According to the provisions of HB 621 a victim of squatting, can easily complete a form and submit it to their local sheriff. The sheriff is then directed to promptly remove the individuals who are unlawfully occupying the residence.

Under HB 621, homeowners in Florida can swiftly and easily reclaim their property from squatters if certain conditions are met:

1. The individual has unlawfully entered and remains on the property.
2. The homeowner has directed the individual to leave, but they have not complied.
3. The individual is neither a current nor former tenant involved in a legal dispute.

This legislation streamlines the process, avoiding costly delays, litigation, and lost rents.

Additionally, HB 621 imposes severe penalties on squatters and those who aid or teach squatting scams:

- Making a false statement to obtain property rights becomes a first-degree misdemeanor.
- Unlawfully occupying a residential dwelling and causing over $1,000 in damages is a second-degree felony.
- Knowingly advertising the sale or rent of a residential property without legal authority becomes a first-degree felony.
